About to join PSG in the coming days, French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier seems to check all the boxes to meet Luis Enrique's expectations.
In a transfer window that's been relatively quiet for incoming players, PSG's directors have made a significant decision regarding the goalkeeper position.
With just one year left on his contract, Gianluigi Donnarumma still hasn't reached a renewal agreement with Les Rouge et Bleu.
To avoid the major disappointment of him leaving on a free transfer next year, PSG's board has proactively moved forward by acting quickly to secure Chevalier's transfer before the start of the 2025-2026 season.
According to what Fabrizio Romano reported today, there are still some final details to be worked out between PSG and LOSC to complete this deal, as the 23-year-old goalkeeper has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with the European champions.
While this decision might come as a surprise after Donnarumma's excellent season, former PSG goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo believes Chevalier perfectly matches what Luis Enrique is looking for.
"Lucas has everything Luis Enrique wants in a goalkeeper. He's young, talented, a good locker room presence, handles pressure well, and the key difference with Donnarumma is his ability to develop play from the back thanks to his footwork," he stated.
Alonzo also stated that while Gigio has improved his distribution and no longer makes as many mistakes, his contribution in this aspect remains minimal compared to Lucas, who has three types of distribution: the very short pass, the medium-range chip, and the long ball.
Jerome Alonzo continued: "Lucas accepts pressure. When you see him play important matches, it looks like he has 400 professional appearances under his belt."
Finally, the former goalkeeper clarified that while he's not certain if Chevalier is currently better than Donnarumma, it will be important to see how the Lille player takes on the role at the Parisian club.
