For many years, the pitch at Parc des Princes has been classified as one of the best-maintained.
But during Friday's match, where PSG faced Angers, it appeared in poor condition. Some fans noticed, commenting about it on social media, though there is indeed an explanation for this.
Since Jonathan Calderwood's arrival, the Parc des Princes pitch has been designated as the best in France. PSG's English groundskeeper has transformed the Parisian stadium's surface into an impeccable playing field.
However, during last night's first home match of PSG's 2025-2026 season, the pitch showed deficient conditions.
According to Le Parisien, several holes were visible in different areas of the field: "A change in appearance that's largely explained by the extreme temperatures that hit the capital during summer. As usual, PSG decided to replace their grass at the end of last season. The regrowth had occurred on time, but the heatwave made it more difficult."
The chosen grass type is adapted to temperate temperatures, between 10°C and 25°C maximum. But when the thermometer exceeds 30°C, the grass suffers, especially when young.
The same publication explains that the identical phenomenon occurred at the start of last season during PSG's first home match.
Conditions should normalize around mid-September following the international break.
To conclude, the outlet states that while the French national team will play a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Iceland on September 9th, PSG hopes to recover a worthy pitch for their match against Lens on September 14th, or for their first Champions League home match.
